So far I have purchased domains on dreamhost.com and yahoo without experiencing any issues. It is only with domain.com that I am experiencing a problem. I have purchased a domain which was already registered because their lookup failed and I am trying to get repsonse from them about my request to change but no response so far. Also blame myself for not using whois instead. It may be an impulsive act but I'd rather get 3 or 4 domains at a discount. Any suggestions? |

Never had any problems with GoDaddy, plus they also offer free private domain registrations or what is commonly known as WHOIS protection. Their services are a bit pricy compared to the competition though - almost a dollar higher than Namecheap, for example - and I wouldn't recommend their hosting services/solutions. If you're looking for cheap domains, there's Netfirms. At 7.99 USD, their domains are a bargain. 1
Haven't tried GoDaddy myself. Interesting.. so whois protection is inclusive on the 10.69 price.. 1
I've read quite a few horror stories about Godaddy, I just can't find them on my RSS reader. I did find this site though: http://nodaddy.com/ . I guess nobody's perfect ALL the time. 1
i transferred my domain name to netfirms, i dont like philhosting.net's domain name management service. hope they improve the management system. 1
One thing that's convenient with using GoDaddy is that, because of their popularity, there's a lot of tutorials provided specific to their service. 1
Actually when I was working for a web development company, they asked me to call the support regarding domain transfer and hosting and I was quite surprised that for every question I had, the girl had to ask someone else. That experience with GoDaddy was still better than domain.com. Please do not try domain.com. I felt like I was robbed of 16 dollars. 1
I hate Godaddy's checkout...they always try to sell you extra stuff and it makes the process longer. I'm in the process of moving everything to Namecheap. 1
I've used GoDaddy before. They are ok, just don't sign-up for hosting services :)

We have several domains with GoDaddy and we haven't had any domain name resolution issues so far (2-3 years and counting). My only problem with GoDaddy is that their admin pages sometimes take a zillion years to load (yes, even with a good DSL connection). But once you have the domains setup, you won't ever need to visit the admin pages again (except when renewing). A good combo is to buy your domains from GoDaddy but host them somewhere else (like a2hosting). 2
I just purchased a new domain from GoDaddy last month. Slightly more expensive than Dreamhost. I actually am better off with Dreamhost as I realized. Also purchased from Yahoo. First year they charge you $9.95 then second year they charge $35 and so on. Amazing. Domain.com - worst registrant. I never got the refund. The issue was their system. You have to use whois to always verify availability. |

Yahoo! Domains is also a prominent player in the domain hosting market. 4
BTW, I have purchased two domains in 2009 from Yahoo. After one year they are charging $39 for earch domain. LOL. Transfering is also a pain. 1
I agree with katz, good thing I saw the fineprint before purchasing from Yahoo! They offer really competitive initial prices then bump up those prices the next year. Now that's what you call vendor lock-in. :) I transferred domains successfully from Yahoo to Dreamhost however. |
